Position: Refractory Installations Manager
Location: KZN, South Africa (Based in Richards Bay)
Key Responsibilities
- Project Planning and Management:
- Plan, organize, and schedule refractory installation, repairs, and annual shutdowns.
- Develop and manage project timelines, resource allocation, and budget estimates.
- Coordinate and communicate with clients, vendors and subcontractors,
- Site and Crew Supervision:
- Manage, train, and mentor supervisors, installation crews, ensuring adherence to project specifications and quality standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections and quality control checks to guarantee the integrity of all refractory work.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Enforce and administer all company safety programs, ensuring strict compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Promote a culture of safety through regular inspections, meetings, and incident investigations.
- Address and resolve any safety-related issues or incidents promptly.
- Technical Expertise:
- Evaluate refractory material options and installation techniques based on project requirements.
- Troubleshoot refractory failures and apply technical principles to resolve issues and extend service life.
- Continuously seek improvements in the selection, installation, and design of refractory linings.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Annalyse/determine scope of work and prepare quotations
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of project progress, material usage, and maintenance activities.
- Prepare progress reports and project reviews to management and clients if needed.
- Create and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for installations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience:
- Proven experience (+ 5 years) in refractory installation or a related field, with demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience.
- Strong background in industrial settings such as smelters, paper mills, steel mills, rotary kilns, boilers, petrochemical, etc.
- Skills:
- Technical: Strong knowledge of refractory materials, installation methods, and high-temperature industrial equipment. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Leadership: Excellent leadership, team management, and mentoring skills.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with crews, clients, and management.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to address on-site challenges and material issues.
- Organizational: Strong planning, organizational, and time-management skills to oversee multiple projects.
- Computer: Proficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Work Environment
- This is a hands-on, office and site-based position requiring the ability to work in demanding industrial environments that involve heat, heights, and confined spaces.
- Travel may be required, depending on project locations.
